On a whim, I looked up the word "meme" and found via
Dictionary.com that it was a term coined by British biologist Richard Dawkins. According to Dictionary.com, a "meme" is "a cultural item that is transmitted by repetition in a manner analogous to the biological transmission of genes." After Googling Richard Dawkins, I've discovered that he's also an outspoken atheist who's written books on evolution. Actually, I think I've heard of his name and a few of his books at some point seeing as I studied biology in college. He even taught at my university way back when. (I confirmed most of this by browsing my university's website, which is generally a bit more trustworthy than Wiki.)
Now here is where it got a bit more entertaining. I also learned that he's married to actress Lalla Ward who's done illustrations for his books, and even narrated some audio versions as well. (I confirmed her work on the books by browsing the
Library of Congress catalog.) A search in
IMDB showed that Lalla Ward played Romana II in
Doctor Who and was even married to Tom Baker for a brief time.
Yeah. I'm a nerd. =)
