This video was great. Timing of each scene with the song was brilliant. You've just inspired to go hunt for more Apocalyptica music since I've heard only two songs from them so far (including this one you used). Great work!!

Wow.
You know I haven't seen A2A yet, but I wanted to see this. I know enough of the story to follow it a bit, but even if I didn't, I'd be blown away by your editing here..it's breathtaking. Your choice of this gorgeous music was brilliant. Coupled with your editing it painted her story so powerfully...every stroke of your vidding brush against this music is like another shred of emotion, making the vid beyond moving. That rush of clips starting at about 3:22 ending with the clown in the car....well...just it's ...oh my....it's magnificent. And the music and Alex 'crying out' together at 3:48.....oh lord....incredible. No wonder you felt in an emotional mess the other night!
I bow to your editing skills....wish I could borrow some of them..for even a minute. sighhh.
I wish I could say more....
Just superb...superb.

Aww, you weren't supposed to watch this without seeing the show first. That's why I didn't let you see that bit the other night! *hmph* ;)

Yes, 3:22 to 3:48 is the exact same section I was telling you about. There's something about cello music that can be so emotionally charged, and I'm glad that those clips worked for you. I really was afraid that it'd border on cheesy. ^_^;

Your choice of this gorgeous music was brilliant.

Lately, I'm finding that the music chooses me instead of the other way around.

(((hugs))) Thank you Ras for the fantabulous review!!! (((morehugs)))

Hey, just had to let you know I finished watching A2A today (it's been the only thing that's gotten me through the insane work schedule I've had the last week and a half). Just now watching the last bit of your vid from 3:21 on....I just had to tell you how even more glorious is feels to watch it now...your editing + this story = brilliant. And to mention her screaming at 3:48, I so love how you did indeed let the following notes of the music match with her rocking forward. Every nuance of this vid is a joy to absorb...so much thought put into every single gorgeous bit. Sighhhh.

(Oooooooh...and that transition...sooooo fabulous looking at :25!!!)

I've got goosebumps all over my body. That was just beautiful.
They way of editing, choosing the scenes, the music... It's perfect.

Very, very, very, very well done. It reminded me of the series finale all over again. In the end I sat there crying and right now I'm nearly reaching the same spot. It's pretty powerful and emotional what you delivered with your vid. Well done.

Oh, and forgot one thing: I adore this version of Nothing Else Matters. I didn't knew Apocalyptica is doing the quiet tunes as well :)

I'm happy I didn't disappoint you with this vid, Jules. :) There's nothing too fancy in terms of editing, but I think the music doesn't call for anything like that, y'know?

And isn't Apocalyptica's version of this song amazing?

Anyway, thank you for the wonderful review!!

Whoa.

O.o

Hang on, I have words, I promise...

WHOA!!

Dude, I loved this. Totally totally awesome. You really married together the whole mystery and tone of the show with the chilling mystery of the music. Awesome!

I love how you started it off with those awesome pans around the city, then quick spurts of clips in between. And at :25 with that SWEET transition, Alex's closed eye being the switch from Molly to the bridge...thing. Anyway, that part is AWESOME! What really got me though was from 3:22 to the end. Start off with just black fade quick clips and then still frames and POW right into the car bomb and everything--I gots chills!!! Major chills!

I still haven't finished the whole season but I'm through ep 4, so I'm half way there. :D I majorly enjoyed this, though, rho!!!

Eek! What's it with you people watching this vid before finishing the series, eh? (I just read your post about finishing the series. Now doesn't the vid make more sense?)

And at :25 with that SWEET transition

I used that same transition throughout the vid, but I'm glad you caught it there. It's an awesome transition, innit? ;)

What really got me though was from 3:22 to the end.

I did that bit at 3:22 early on because that was one of the first things I "saw" when I heard the music. Seems to be striking people in much the same way that it did for me. Thanks for pointing it out!

Anywho, I'm glad you liked the vid, HRS! :D Thank you for the awesome review!!!

Now that I've watched it a million times I think I can manage some feedback. (Finally!)

Ok, thank you SO much for liking this show enough to vid it. It's atrociously under-liked and under-vidded, especially because it's gorgeous and AMAZING.

Now in terms of the vid, well it's brilliant. When put in competent hands, of course it's brilliant! And you got it all starting with the opening. I personally love the original Metallica song and I think this cover fits really well for a woman's POV. It's quieter and has a different sort of emo about it. I guess that's my long way of saying that it works really well for Alex.

Oh Alex. I love your cutting in her "intro to '81" section. (That's 0:46-1:04.)

I loved all the various little masking moments scattered throughout the vid. They're very subtle. I like that.

Ok 2:50. THANK YOU. I love seeing the various ways vidders put their spin on the theory. Certainly the way you cut that made me point to the screen and say, "Oh snap!" LOL.

3:21-3:28 = ORGASM OF EPIC PROPORTIONS!!! I can't even. GUH.

3:48. I'm gonna do the thing where I say weird stuff like how one of my favorite things to do sometimes is to cut screaming scenes to certain musical cues. So here the music shifts and suddenly you've got this held note that translates really well to her epic scream. I totally adore doing things like that and I loved seeing it here.

4:06. I'm sorry, just me being gratuitous and yelling about how much I adore Keeley Hawes. I mean LOOK AT THAT FACE!

4:20-the end. I love this bookend. And just...ALEX! *pats her*

*bigdeepbreath*

Now that I've read your review a million times, I think I can reply to it. Again.

It's atrociously under-liked and under-vidded, especially because it's gorgeous and AMAZING.

There aren't too many good vids to this show, which is such a shame because it's so beautifully shot -- perfect for vidding! The story has a wonderfully tight focus as well. Anyway, I don't anticipate too many comments on this vid because of all that, but DAMN, reading yours has definitely made my day. (((HUGS)))

It's quieter and has a different sort of emo about it. I guess that's my long way of saying that it works really well for Alex.

YES! That's exactly what I was thinking!

I loved all the various little masking moments scattered throughout the vid. They're very subtle. I like that.

I told [info]jagwriter78 the same thing about using that transition. It's subtle, and I didn't think many people would pick up on it, but I like it. So kudos to you for picking up on it! And if you want to learn how to do these mask transitions in Vegas, lemme know. I just figured them out about a week ago. :D

Ok 2:50. THANK YOU. I love seeing the various ways vidders put their spin on the theory.

Ahh, yes. The theory. ;) Initially, I had those two overlaid clips separate, but it just didn't have the meaning I wanted until I put them together. I can honestly say that I had a lot of intention with pretty much every clip in this vid. They had to fit not only the music, but the story as well.

3:21-3:28 = ORGASM OF EPIC PROPORTIONS!!! I can't even. GUH.

Awwwww. Thank you!!! You know what's the funny thing about doing quick runs like that? I never know if they work until I'm done, and doing this on felt like FOREVER. I'm sure glad it seems to have paid off!!

3:48. I'm gonna do the thing where I say weird stuff

Oh, I know what you mean! Here, the hard decision was whether to have to wailing note match up exactly with her scream, or to have the following notes match up with her rocking forward. I went with the second option because the first seemed just a bit heavy-handed. Yes, I really did put a lot of thought into all these clips. :D

4:06.

Yes. *sniff* *sniff*

4:20-the end.

I'm glad the ending there worked for you. :)

So yeah. To sum up --> ASLKJBSDKJBSD;KJVB;KSJBV;KJDSBF;KJVBSD;KJVB;KJBVKJBKVJB;!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ONE!1

Everything about the way this show was perceived by certain people is completely undeserved and frankly absurd! It's such an amazing show and it should have MUCH more love than it gets. *grumbles* AND. IT. IS. SO. PRETTY!

And if you want to learn how to do these mask transitions in Vegas, lemme know. I just figured them out about a week ago. :D

Ahh, yes. The theory. ;) Initially, I had those two overlaid clips separate, but it just didn't have the meaning I wanted until I put them together. I can honestly say that I had a lot of intention with pretty much every clip in this vid.
Oh no doubt, man. It's how when you look at the mis-en-scene of show, you're first supposed to assume EVERYTHING in the frame is intentionally there because the director wanted it to be for a reason. And then when they say it's not, lol, then you can chillax. So yeah, I never doubted your intentions for a second. ;) And this is why I wish people were still doing vid commentaries because there's so much regular viewers just won't get about the vidding process and the vidders' intent.

Oh, I know what you mean! Here, the hard decision was whether to have to wailing note match up exactly with her scream, or to have the following notes match up with her rocking forward. I went with the second option because the first seemed just a bit heavy-handed.
GOOD! I'm very pleased that you thought about it this much. :D Because it's fun to think about it this much, lol. Yeah, I'm kicking around a vid idea where it would end on this hollow note that would translate so perfectly to that shot and it would be the last shot of the vid so it would be pretty hot, but yeah, I dunno. It would be a tough vid otherwise. Still undecided.

Aaaaaaanyway....Seeing good A2A vids make me weep with joy, and there I go for the tissues. :)

You commented on [info]hollywoodgrrl's comment, so instead of going at the bottom, your comment's in the middle! That was fluffing *gorgeous*. Brilliantly edited to the music, and you made a beautifully filmed show look even prettier.

Interesting aside on the music: Right when A2A started airing, I was doing lighting design for a truly whacked out production of an obscure German play, and every night in said show, three of the actors would whip out violins and start playing "Nothing Else Matters" at various intervals.

Just a random piece of info that popped into my head when I was watching your vid!
